Minister Dito highlighted Indonesia’s perspective on pencak silat as a symbol of global resilience, striving to raise its international recognition, potentially even incorporating it into the Olympics. He believes that sports, like pencak silat, embody principles of security resilience, contributing to nation-building, social cohesion, and conflict resolution. Through Indonesia’s support of the UN’s Global Sports Programme, traditional and modern sports are utilized to empower youth and enhance resilience.
Moreover, Minister Dito stressed lessons learned from the 2024 Paris Olympics, underscoring the need for robust security infrastructure and preparedness for major sporting events. Indonesia aims to implement innovative security frameworks, enhance intelligence collaboration, and establish global partnerships to effectively manage security challenges. Public-private partnerships are also on the agenda to enhance sports safety standards and promote international cooperation to combat violent extremism through sports.
President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to introduce pencak silat to the Olympics was mentioned, urging support from all parties to preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage and work towards its inclusion in the Olympics. These efforts align with Indonesia’s commitment to fostering peace and unity through sports. The country’s dedication to promoting sports as a symbol of peace and resilience reflects a mutual goal of creating a secure and inclusive global sporting environment.
